In addition, Ron supported increasing water rates, by a whopping 18%, in just the last 2 years!

During late September 2003, Ron supported the seriously-flawed “Wet Weather Flow Master Plan”, a largely-defective program which would likely lead to more significant water rate and tax hikes.

Although, year after year, City reports* warned that Toronto did not have revenue sufficient for covering program costs, Ron continued to put in a ‘good old time’ by making taxpayers cover his unnecessary international travel expenses.

According to one 2003 City forecast, from 2002 to 2007, Toronto’s debt would increase by about $800 million. The projected total, for that ‘mortgage on our future’, was, by this latter time, expected to be at approximately $2 billion.*

Over the last 4 years, Toronto lost its AAA credit rating
and had been squandering tens of millions of
dollars annually on useless
debt servicing
charges.*

The list of major problems,
goes on.

“Not everybody there is bad, but, during my years on City committees, I have encountered corruption enough times to know that it is seriously impairing government and wasting far too much money. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED! Yet, we got to this point, because politicians, like Ron Moeser, failed to prevent it. 15 years in power. Lots of corruption going on. Yet, not a peep about it, from Ron Moeser. Unlike him, I will seek to eliminate that problem.”

- William F. Sheehan

“This appears to be related to that corruption issue. There is, for instance, little or no interest, among many councilors, to challenge City Staff. Seemingly as if both groups have something to hide, nearly all the civil servants, at City Hall, appear to be turning a blind eye to what the other guy has been doing. Apparently, this is because they fear reprisals and nobody wants their own apple cart knocked over. So, with virtually no checks in place, the requests for much spending has, predictably, been high. Yet, some of those big-ticket items have, clearly, been unwarranted. Others were, at least, questionable and should have been reviewed. If elected, then I shall endeavor to give Toronto’s spending the critical analysis it and municipal taxpayers deserve.”

- William F. Sheehan

“Councilors, like Ron Moeser, belong to an old school of politics which view accountability as a problem. Despite being helpful, responsible, accountable, and technologically possible, for example, Ron has never made his weekly schedule available to residents, on the internet. So, predictably, it has been impossible for his constituents to keep track of what he has been doing. Similarly, Ron has never posted his voting and committee attendance records - despite Toronto’s 2002 Strategic & Corporate Policy called for “responsible and accountable governance”. So, unlike Mr. Moeser, if elected, I shall strive to make that and more information available on-line. In addition, I shall endeavor to get this municipal government to start promoting an environment of checks and balances - part of this means giving some teeth to the City’s conflict of interest rules. Presently, bureaucrats who have conflicts can still advise and vote at committee meetings.
This must stop. Further, to help ensure accountability and improve the flow of information, between City Hall and residents, I shall endeavor to only employ, in my municipal offices, executives of Ward 44's ratepayer groups.”

- William F. Sheehan

“Ron has never expressed any great knowledge nor concern about Toronto’s air, water, and land waste. He has repeatedly missed meetings which have dealt with these problems. Ron even supported City programs which, despite their hefty price tags, either exacerbated pollution or had been expected to fail. Enough! Ward 44 needs better - a lot better. So, if elected councilor then I shall strive to end Toronto’s dangerous and expensive biosolids program. I shall also endeavor to replace the Wet Weather Flow Master Plan with a more sensible and less costly arrangement. In addition, I shall seek out an affordable way to recycle all of Toronto’s trash.”
